歷史背景
喪屍是透過人類屍體復活而成的虛構不死生物，常見於奇幻及恐怖類型作品。起源於海地民間傳說，喪屍通常由魔法使死屍復活。現代喪屍更可能因精神疾病、病毒、輻射及其他科學意外而產生，而非傳統魔法影響。
英語單詞「zombie」首次記錄於1819年，《牛津英語詞典》認為其源自西非語言，與剛果語的nzambi（神）及zombi（護符）相似。
1929年W B Seabrook出版的《魔法島》是一部誇張敘述，講述一個人遇見海地巫毒教派，這是西方文化首次接觸巫毒喪屍概念的書籍之一。
經過文學演變，喪屍被描繪為無思想的邪惡奴僕。隨後的恐怖電影中出現的「怪物」渴求人肉或吃腦的概念，電影中並未稱其為喪屍，而是影迷賦予的稱號。儘管形象恐怖不自然，喪屍概念仍持續帶來無盡娛樂，不僅透過文字、電視及電影，亦透過日益流行的喪屍主題展會。
